Cinnamon Playdough (uncooked)

Purpose:  This wonderful smelling playdough will engage several of the children's senses as they follow the directions in order to make it.  For younger children, you will want to make it in advance.  At any age, the children can learn the rich vocabulary needed to describe how the playdough feels and smells as they play with it.  See Beeswax Animals for ideas on how to make the activity more language rich by relating it to telling or reading stories.

Materials/Advance Preparation:

Directions:

  1. Mix all the dry ingredients in your bowl.
  2. Add the oil and food coloring into the water, then mix into the dry ingredients.
  3. Stir until the dough forms a ball (add more flour if the mixture is too sticky, add more water if the mixture is too dry).
  4. Knead on a lightly floured surface until the dough is pliable.
  5. Refrigerate in a re-sealable plastic bag when not in use.
