Colorful Flowers

Purpose: Children's attraction to the wonders of nature and the beauty of bright colors make this activity engaging. Children will be amazed to watch the colors blend when sprayed with water.  This will provide an opportunity for rich conversations about observation, flowers, color, and springtime.  They can also be the basis for Mother's or Father's Day gifts.

Materials:

Directions:

  1. Each child takes one filter and colors it brightly with markers.  Any design may be used; more vibrant colors work well.
  2. After coloring is completed, place the filters on a newspaper; spray water directly onto filters.
  3. Have children watch the colors mix.
  4. When filter is dry, scrunch the middle up and wrap a pipe cleaner around it to make a stem.
  5. Cut out leaves from construction paper and apply to pipe cleaner with glue.
