Purpose:
This game will help children to remember in increasingly more organized ways.
It will also provide practice for the particular skill area that is being
addressed (depending on the pictures used).
Materials/Advance Preparation:
- caps from baby food jar or similar shaped items
- pairs of pictures on a theme (letters of the alphabet, animals,
flowers, colors, etc.) or scissors and magazines from which children can cut
pairs of pictures
- glue
Directions:
- (Have
the children find and cut pictures of things that they like.)
- Have them glue
one picture under each lid. There should be two of
each picture.
- Create anywhere from five to ten pairs of pictures.
- Turn
lids pictures side down and mix up the lids.
- Put
the lids in rows.
- Each
child gets to turn over two caps to see if they match. If they do, leave
them turned face up.
- Be
sure to speak about the pictures as the children turn them over. Also be
sure to keep the focus on the conversation about the pictures rather than on
someone "winning" the game.
- Play
until all lids are turned over and then play again!
Notes: This game can be made for virtually any theme. Keep
the games separated in labeled bags.
