Playdough (edible)

Purpose:  Playdough is one of the simple pleasures of early childhood.  Once made, you can use it to model letters or other shapes, develop dexterity, or just to have fun!

Materials/Advance Preparation:

Directions:

  1. Have children wash their hands very well.
  2. Give each child a paper plate.
  3. Refer to the pictogram throughout to make the playdough as follows:  Mix 8 oz. peanut butter and 3T honey.  Add 1 cup dry milk gradually while stirring until the mixture is a dough-like consistency.
  4. Distribute some of this mixture to each child and let them play with this dough on their plates.  You may guide this play by modeling the formation of different geometric shapes or numbers or letters.

*Note: Before doing this activity, be sure that no child in your care is allergic to peanuts.  If none are, then the children can eat this playdough when play is over.  But be sure that the children are old enough to understand that it is only THIS playdough that they can eat, not any of the others.
