Intentional play builds important skills

Play in which children plan to enact a make-believe scenario helps them learn many important social and preliteracy skills.  For example, they learn to negotiate roles, remember a sequence of of actions, and take turns.  Early educators can encourage and scaffold this kind of play as one way to encourage children to develop self-regulation.
