In fact, researchers agree that teaching can only occur in environments that are organized as communities that build social-emotional relationships between the children and adults. They have captured their reasons why, along with practical classroom advice, in the book Teaching 4-8 Year Olds. Some of their ideas are described in the November 2002 NCEDL Spotlight newsletter.
