New study finds kindergarten retention harmful
Amid the debate about ending "social promotion," a new study has found that retaining students in kindergarten does more harm than good. Students with similar performance to those retained learned more if they were promoted to first grade.
The results are reported in the fall 2005 issue of Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis.
