Parents can use conversations to help their children in reading and writing

ABSTRACT

All parents, even those with limited literacy skills, can use conversation to help their children develop abilities essential to reading and writing well. The key is in the kind of conversations they have. This article offers some concrete suggestions for parents - both for the kinds of questions to ask that invite conversation and for other enjoyable activities that encourage rich language use.
